The everyday cleaning and personal care may not be enough … and usually we tend to resort to deodorant and antiperspirant products, which their consumption increases exponentially in the summer season!
These products, like all types of cosmetics, before being commercialized, must have passed satisfactorily the efficacy and safety tests.
However, first, and not so obvious, we should know the difference between the two products:
The difference between an antiperspirant and a deodorant lies in the fact that the first one controls and reduces the production of sweat of the skin, while the second one only neutralizes the bad odor thanks to the antibacterial substances in its composition.
On one hand, so as to check the effectiveness of an antiperspirant we use the Gravimetric Technique Test, which measures the reduction of sweating. On the other hand, with a Sniff Test, we measure the absence against bad odor that the deodorant neutralizes.
Though, not only we have to fight against the excessive sweating and the bad odors … there are other enemies to confront, such as the unappealing white spots that some deodorants tend to leave on dark clothes, or worse, the annoying yellow spots on our white outfits we generally wear in summer.
What really differentiates a deodorant or an antiperspirant from others in the market, it’s their ability to do not leave any trace on our clothes.
In order to be able to evaluate it, in both cases we use colorimetric techniques and photographs so as to study the obtained results.
